03 / A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
Compatibility, permissions, and what to expect from the preview.
The Universal download includes Apple Silicon and Intel builds, with macOS 13 as the minimum build target. Charge-limit support varies by Mac and macOS version; Coddle checks what is available at runtime. Real-device testing currently covers Apple Silicon on recent macOS. Intel and older macOS testing is not yet complete.
It is an early preview, free to download. The app is ad-hoc signed, not Developer ID signed or notarized by Apple. macOS may prevent it from opening normally. Review the installation notes and source before deciding to use it.
Charging control and ordinary sleep prevention do not need a privileged helper. Closed-lid operation requires the optional helper, installed only when you choose it and approve macOS administrator authorization. Some system power-mode changes also require authorization.
Turning the Sleep Prevention master switch off stops Coddle’s Mac, display, and closed-lid sleep prevention. Your display and lid preferences are saved for next time; charging settings and system display sleep timers are unchanged. If Coddle cannot confirm that sleep prevention has stopped, it shows the status and retries.
It uses local hourly plug-in samples and straightforward rules, not an online AI model. It needs enough observations to recognize a routine, and its estimates are not guaranteed. Configuration and charging history are stored locally on your Mac.
